Storybook Summer Emily Price Post by Sara of Creative Jewish Mom

Hi, I'm Sara from creativejewishmom.com, and we are so excited to share with you one of our cutest ever craft projects! Thanks such to Marie for tantalizing USA to participate in her Storybook Summertime Series which is how this project came about. This is the first time we've ready-made a craft figure inspired by a favorite story, and the results were so often fun, I think we'll judge to do it more often!

One of our selfsame favorite stories is the classic by Margret and H.A. Rey,Curious George VI Flies A Kite. The story is filled with so many things we'd love to do: fishing, kite flying and petting baby bunnies! And of course the wonderful vintage illustrations are always a pleasure for mom, and the ending is thusly sweet…..non to mollycoddle it for you, but George IV gets a baby bunny as a gift at the conclusion of the story, and that is my children's dream as well. I'd love to help them realize their ambition, but first we would require to learn how to make a cute hare hovel ;)  So in the mean time, permit's get crafting with kites!

Supplies for Summertime Kite Wall Art:

  • plastic imbibing straws, we used atomic number 10 colored ones
  • white gum, we in use high tack craft glue which is a trifle hard to squeeze out of the bottle for kids, just helps speed the project along
  • colored tissue
  • colored crepe paper (surgery you can use tissue report)
  • white string or yarn
  • round wooden skewers (or toothpicks leave work if that's what you birth on handwriting)
  • mod podge Beaver State a mixed bag of white glue and water
  • a hot glue gun (for adult assistance)
  • scissors

Whole step 1: Cut pieces of straws and glue them to your weave paper base to form kite shapes. As shown in the photo, make the horizontal cross bar from one un-cut distance of chaff, As you'll function this portion to cling (surgery alert?) your little kites. The vertical bad-tempered-bar is then made from two pieces. You can make kites of any size, though for the largest size possible, use complete straws for your outside frame and then fill in the inside framework with pieces cut to size as necessity.

Glueing the kite shapes to the tissue paper newspaper publisher was so much fun we filled a whole large sheet of tissue paper!

Step 2: After the glue has dried somewhat or better yet, wholly (we couldn't wait that long!) scratch out your kites by cutting the tissue paper just along the border formed by the straws. To stabilize the kite, run a wooden skewer fallen through both of the rearing cross bar straw pieces. Phew, this solves a bit technical problem I hadn't sentiment of, and round wooden bamboo bar-b-que skewers are on the dot the right-handed size for our largest kite!

Step 3: Apply designs to the front of your kite with mod podge or a mixture of white glue and urine, and reach small tassels from crepe paper. We simply castrated small widths of crepe paper from the two-dimensional roll in which it came, cut one oddment, and tied a string around the other end. Seize your tassels to the kite with lesser dabs of hot glue, practical by an fully grown. Ready bows from crepe paper—we used a lesser stack to give our bows some weight. Simply cut a whole lot of small rectangles and then cut two triangular notches midmost of the rectangle, around which you marry a small length of draw. Glue your bows to a length of string, using hot gum, and then attach that resulting kite tail to the bottom of the kite with heatable glue.
