I was at Steven Alan the other mean solar day, and they had some done Filson bags (URL below if you want to cheque it out). I really liked the artful, only not the fashion of the numberless b/c they were mostly large duffles. I was told that the done numberless are exclusive to Steven Alan, and I tried to get more details, but everyone there was pretty vague. They said the bags are shipped off to Japan where they are washed in "special" machines using "special" detergents. They discouraged me washing a new bag personally, and recommended I buy i of their pre-washed bags (obviously).
I've decided I'm going to take my chances and wash a new one, so I recently purchased an Otter Dark-green Filson Large Briefcase.
I was wondering if anyone else has a Filson, and if they have e'er washed theirs. If then, what temp? What detergent? Did you put it in the Dryer?
Whatever details that anyone could requite me would exist profoundly appreciated.

That bag looks really fucking cool. Information technology feels a chip similar cheating, in the same way washed/distressed denim does, but if information technology is, so that pocketbook is the fucking Jomon of pre-distressed Filsons.
I practice wonder about the durability and water repellency of the washed vs original articles. Filson's warnings confronting washing their waxed cottons, which antedate the Steve Alan bag, would make me a bit cautious about ownership a normal slice of Filson baggage and washing it myself.
I accept a feeling that the bags are re-treated after washing with some wax; if they're non, and so I would be somewhat concerned near the water resistance.
Even so, awesome looking stuff.

The reason why I don't retrieve it would be adulterous to wash the bag is b/c I feel that no thing how long yous use one of those bags, it will probably never look every bit cool as they wait when you wash them, simply because they are treated and so that they won't deteriorate. Of form, a combination of the ii (time/use and washing) would probably have the best effect, and that is my programme. Imho, when you buy pre-distressed denim, it NEVER looks every bit good as if yous buy raw and just wear them to death. My biggest qualm with pre-distressed denim is that it is not a reflection on the way you live. If you lot buy raw, and so those jeans go a blank canvas, and whatever the outcome, proficient or bad, it represents the way you lot alive your life. Equally far equally water repellency goes, Filson sells the aforementioned wax they use at the factory, so that would definitely accept to be part of this process.

Hmm. I'd be tempted to attempt a washtub with some detergent and a lilliputian bleach, and go at information technology with a big wire castor. The important thing volition exist taking care of the leather when information technology dries. For something similar that, peradventure baseball glove conditioner would be skillful.

I have a couple of Filson luggage items and I wouldn't wash them....no way. Simply utilise the hell out of it and it will end upward looking cool as hell. I had a medium field handbag that was well on it's way to looking like the photo of the one yous posted before I traded information technology off....(wish I hadn't). Will Filson still honor the lifetime warrenty if y'all wash the purse? I remember all you lot are doing is pulling the waterproofing handling out of the material when yous wash it which sort of defeats the purpose....Not to mention the leather on the purse y'all posted looks similar a dog has been chewing on it. I recall they are a lot similar the Red Moon wallets....there are non shortcuts in getting good wabi....merely gotta use the hell out of them.

Blackgrass,
Do you lot have any picks of your Filsons? The simply reason for my interest in washing is that I was concerned the wax finish would prevent wear. I don't want to use the bag for 5 years and so have it look similar to the day I bought it. If y'all don't think that would be the instance, so I may just let nature take its form.
I asked Filson specifically, and they said that washing would not void the warranty. They likewise said it would not upshot the integrity of the bag, that information technology would simply not be h2o resistant anymore, which is of no event to me.
Thanks for the input...

My Filson purse I carried all the time was the Medium Field purse. I sold information technology a year or and then agone just for a change...Wish I hadn't. I have a large duffle that I got for X-mas final year only haven't really used it much so it doesn't have much grapheme.
The wax finish is not going to prevent clothing to the bag and probably helps create wearable much like a pair of raw denim jeans. I accept merely owned the tan colored baggage. It seems to show dirt and scuff marks pretty readily....which to some might not be a good thing but I actually like a bag that shows character. Information technology will take a while to interruption in only in the stop I think y'all will be happier knowing you put all those miles on your bag. I really like the briefcases....The field bag I had had an oval cutting tiptop that prevented you from beingness able to stick a standard size file in the bag....that is the existent reason I sold it off.
Something you could try is only wetting down your bag and giving it a good scrubbing with a nylon scrub brush. That might remove the outer layer of the wax and help with the burglary process. The leather will burglary nicely with some time. At first the bags are quite stiff but give it a few months of apply and I retrieve you will be glad you didn't launder it. I may have to ask for a briefcase for Ten-mas...had to beat a Filson!

Emphatically seconded. Waxwear develops an amazing patina. No experience with Filson, merely my 2-year-former Barbour jacket has slap-up article of clothing.

the only problem with wax clothing its that it transfers the wax everywhere during the first few weeks until information technology gets broken in. something I learned the hard way with a brown waxed messenger purse from JCrew. Information technology looks dandy at present though especially with all the indigo that has rubbed of my denim and on to the bag.

One thing to note. I don't think the bags take as much wax on them as the jackets. I accept endemic both the Shelter Textile and Tin cloth and they don't seem to have the aforementioned waxy feel as a Barbour type jacket (which I have too owned). I haven't had a problem with the wax rubbing off on annihilation from any Filson product.

For anyone who actually needs to CLEAN a Filson pocketbook...Unbeknownst to me, my 95-lb. Blackness Lab must take taken a DUMP on my green twill duffle almost ii weeks ago, when he was "nether the weather." I called Filson Customer Service where a very helpful dude named Christian suggested that I try a l/50 mix of WHITE vinegar (Not red-wine, apple tree cider etc.) & h2o, practical w/a wire or toothbrush. I can't find whatever white vinegar, so I'll have to allow anyone interested know
how this goes. He besides suggested putting the bag out in the lord's day to endeavour to deodorize it. (I have a bit of a sinus condition, but the bag really doesn't smell like DOG POOP!)
Not really looking for a Stylish WASHED wait...I but want to attempt to get a dog shit stain out of my handbag!
P.South. This process is supposed to preserve the WAX/water-proofing procedure.
